HubSpot AEO job description with a Reddit-shaped hole

HubSpot Is Hiring a $138K AEO Marketer. The Job Description Has a Reddit-Shaped Hole.

HubSpot just posted a Senior AEO Growth Marketer role at $92K–$138K — formalizing AEO as a career path. Read the job description carefully and one word is missing: Reddit. That's not an oversight. It's the unbuilt half of the category.

The $138K headline nobody is reading carefully

On the HubSpot careers site, a single posting tells you everything you need to know about where marketing is heading.

Senior AEO Growth Marketer. Posting ID POS-32394. Remote, USA. Cash compensation range: $92,000 to $138,000. Equity on top. Bonus eligible.

The job exists. That's the headline most people will read. AEO — answer engine optimization, the discipline of making a brand visible inside ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews — is no longer a side experiment buried inside someone's SEO role. It is its own line on the org chart at the company that arguably defined modern inbound marketing. When HubSpot hires for a discipline, that discipline becomes a category. When it pays this much for it, the category becomes a career path.

But the more interesting headline is in the job description itself. Read every line of the responsibilities and qualifications. The word "Reddit" appears zero times. Not in the channels list. Not in the experiment surface area. Not in the example answer engines they want the hire to influence. Zero.

That's not an oversight. It's the unbuilt half of the AEO category.

Decoding the HubSpot AEO job description

The job posting is short, but every line is doing work. Strip out the boilerplate and the signal is loud.

The new hire will "own the post-launch GTM strategy and growth motion for HubSpot's AEO product." Translation: HubSpot's AEO product (the $50/month beta launched earlier this year) is live, and now someone is being paid six figures to figure out how to grow it. The playbook is being written in real time, by someone who hasn't been hired yet.

The hire will "design and run AEO experiments across content, owned media, creators, partnerships, and review platforms to uncover scalable growth opportunities." That's a deliberate channel list. It names creators. It names partnerships. It names review platforms. It is, in the modern AEO sense, almost complete.

The hire will improve HubSpot's "visibility, citations, and brand presence across answer engines" — and the listing explicitly names "ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Claude, and other answer engines." Notice the omission again. The named platforms are the output side: the LLMs that produce the answers. The input side — the platforms that feed those LLMs — is left blank.

Then the closer: "Help shape the broader AI-era search strategy at HubSpot by contributing strategic insights, scalable playbooks, and operational best practices." This person is being hired to write the playbook the rest of the industry will copy.

The word missing from the listing

Here is what makes the omission strange.

Reddit is the single largest source of LLM citations on the web. According to citation analysis published in mid-2025 by the AI search community, Reddit accounts for roughly 40 percent of the web domains cited by major large language models — more than Wikipedia (26 percent), YouTube (24 percent), and Google itself (23 percent). On commercial-intent queries — "best CRM for startups," "HubSpot vs Salesforce," "is HubSpot worth the price" — Reddit threads frequently rank in the top three citation slots in ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, and Gemini responses.

HubSpot knows this. The company's own AEO Strategy Guide instructs marketers to participate in Reddit communities as part of an AEO content plan. HubSpot's marketing-site footer links to r/hubspot. The company's content team monitors discussion on Reddit. The intelligence is internal.

So why isn't Reddit in the job description?

Because the existing HubSpot AEO product cannot help anyone publish on Reddit. The product measures citations. It scores content readiness. It surfaces sentiment. It does not write a single subreddit-compliant post. It does not check rules against the moderator queue of r/Entrepreneur before publishing. It does not warn you that the account you're about to post from has zero karma and will be shadow-removed inside three minutes.

The job description has to match what the tool can plausibly enable. Reddit is the platform the tool cannot help with — yet — so Reddit is not in the job description.

That's the gap. And it's an opportunity.

Three audiences, one missing layer

This job posting is a forward indicator for three different groups of people, and each one should be reading it differently.

For anyone building a career in AEO. The skill that will set candidates apart in 2026 is not understanding what AEO is. Every applicant for this role will be able to define answer engine optimization, explain how it differs from SEO, and recite the names of the major LLMs. The differentiator is operational fluency on Reddit — knowing which subreddits move citations, how to participate without getting removed, how to format posts that LLMs actually quote, how to scale posting across accounts without tripping anti-spam systems. That is the resume line nobody has yet. The first hires who do will be the ones writing the playbooks the industry copies.

For in-house Reddit and community managers. The mandate is changing under your feet. Your job description probably still says "engagement," "brand sentiment," "community health." Within twelve months it will also say "AI citation surface" or "LLM visibility." The brand subreddit you run is no longer just a customer touchpoint. It is training and retrieval material for the AI systems your buyers now ask before they visit your site. The publishing pipeline you've been running by hand needs to become a system — with discovery, compliance, and cadence built in — because the volume requirement is about to multiply.

For agencies and consulting firms. The retainer conversation is about to shift. Clients who have been asking for "SEO" will start asking for "AEO services" inside the next twelve months. The deliverable that actually moves citations is not another measurement dashboard. It is published Reddit content in the right communities, written in a format LLMs cite, posted from accounts that don't get removed. You need a layer that lets one operator manage that workflow across many clients without burning karma or breaking rules. The agencies that build that layer first capture the category.

The Reddit AEO playbook gap

Lay out what HubSpot's AEO product does, side by side with what actually produces citations, and the shape of the gap becomes clear.

HubSpot AEO tracks brand mentions in LLM-generated answers. It scores your content for retrievability. It runs sentiment analysis on the Reddit threads where your brand is already discussed. It generates a visibility score and a share-of-voice breakdown across answer engines. It is a serious measurement product.

What it does not do, and what no major AEO platform currently does: write, schedule, compliance-check, or publish a single Reddit post. The platform that produces the largest share of LLM citations has no publishing tooling inside the dominant AEO measurement stack. Measurement without execution is half a product. The other half is where Reddit Assistant Pro lives.

Where Reddit Assistant Pro fits

Reddit Assistant Pro is the publishing layer the HubSpot AEO job description is implicitly asking for.

Subreddit Discovery surfaces the communities most relevant to a product or service, ranked by activity, moderation strictness, and citation likelihood — so the AEO marketer running experiments knows where to invest, not which subreddit to guess at.

Rule-aware post drafting scans your draft against the specific rules of the target subreddit before you click submit, catching the formatting, link, and self-promotion patterns that get posts removed within minutes.

Karma-aware publishing flags account standing risks before you post — so the experiments your AEO team is running don't quietly fail because the test accounts are shadow-banned.

LLM-citation formatting helps structure posts the way large language models tend to retrieve and quote — concrete first sentences, specific names, clean question-and-answer structure, plain prose over heavy formatting.

Reddit Assistant Pro is built for the slot in the workflow that the HubSpot AEO product does not fill. Measurement on one side, execution on the other.

Closing

The most useful piece of marketing intelligence available today is a job description that costs nothing to read. HubSpot has told you, in public, what discipline is real, what it pays, what skills will be on every comparable hiring page in twelve months, and which platform the existing tools cannot help with.

Reddit is missing from the listing because the tooling layer for it has not been built into the AEO category yet. That is the slot. Whoever fills it — at HubSpot, at the next company to post a similar role, at an agency selling AEO retainers, or at a founder publishing one post at a time — is going to need a workflow for Reddit that does not break the rules and does not burn the account.

That workflow is what Reddit Assistant Pro is for.
